“We should ransack the tool house of organized religions for the best tools, the best methods, the best things.”
Dennett is a philosopher and cognitive scientist. His lecture makes interesting points about the positive aspects of religious institutions and their role in human society. Some of his points are quite relevant to the kind of life within the Party and the broader socialist movement we need to build. We don’t need the obscurantism and dogmatism of religion, but how do we create the sense of warmth, community, hope, beauty, joy and moral teamwork that organized religion can produce?
